The NSA (National Security Agency) has reportedly made it clear that any company who can unlock Skype encryption so that government agencies and law enforcement organizations can intercept and tap Skype communications may find themselves very wealthy. Like Billionaire, with a "B", wealthy.
Skype is a freely available VoIP (Voice over IP) service built on a peer-to-peer (P2P) networking model. Skype offers free audio calls, video calls, and instant messaging via the Internet enabling users to communicate across town or around the world at no cost. That, combined with the encrypted security of the communications, also makes the service popular with terrorists and enemies of the state.
Government intelligence agencies around the world are lamenting their inability to eavesdrop on the Skype communications, and the NSA dropped their hint of untold riches at the Counter Terror Expo in London. Perhaps eBay, Skype's parent company can sell a secret backdoor into Skype to the NSA if they need to scrounge up a spare billion or three.
